For my Learning With Digital Stories class (INTE 5340), I created a digital story about my adversity in my job search. I’ve kept some items from the various places I’ve worked. Some of them from companies that went out of business and some from companies where I was downsized. Wanted to keep it simple with photos, narration and music. I used Audacity to record my voice and iMovie to put it all together. Comments appreciated.

Mark – Your story is moving. The visuals are powerful because they are so effective in communicating the sense of ‘turnover’ that you have experienced over the years. I appreciate the simplicity of the visuals and I think they enhance your overall message. The sound (your recorded voice) was clear, and the tone and pace also helped to communicate your sense of exasperation and of moving along in your journey — but you also communicate persistence and hope. One suggestion for an ending visual might be some type of photo that communicates a sense of ‘looking ahead’. Your ability to powerfully communicate your story has evolved tremendously over this course. Thank you for creating this powerful, personal piece!
Thanks Lori!
Mark this piece was fantastic! I agree with everything that Lori said, especially with how the simplicity of the images convey such a strong message. I experienced my first layoff this year and I am terrified of going through another someday. I’m holding on to hope that this degree we’re getting will somehow see us through any more difficult times ahead. 🙂 I wish you the best of luck! And I too hope you never have to wear a uniform or name badge again!
Thanks TiAn. One layoff is tough enough, but going through several is traumatic. If you’re still in job search mode, I have plenty of advice to share.
